It's Not Just The Driving That Makes Track Weekends Fun

Characters Along The Way

I have met some of the nicest people I know, at track events.  In fact, I have met
Cheese Heads, Buckeyes, West Siders, Hoosiers, Windy City Bulls, Twin City Lakers,
Motor City Peeps, Crazy Canucks, Moonshine Runners, Some Folks from the Carolinas and a Schnauser.

They are young guns, newly weds, proud parents, middle age crazy, empty nesters and grand parents.

They offer good conversation, free advice, instruction, helping hands, food & drink, laughter and most of all friendship.

To everyone that I indirectly mentioned above, thank you for helping make track days so enjoyable.

A Special Thanks to Corvette Peter who trailered my wounded cobra home for me and Car Show Larry for picking up and storing my tire trailer (Sept. 2008)

Thanks Friends

People At The Track

Most people go to their first track event because they have a desire to drive fast.  They wish to experience the thrill of mashing the brake, corning at the limit and then flying down the front straight with their hair on fire.  Well except for the part about fire, you can do that at high performance driving events.

So you go to your first event and thoroughly enjoy your on-track time and wish there were more of it.  But then a funny thing begins to happen.  Just after the initial rush of driving on track starts to fade you realize that the people at the track are wonderful, interesting and insightful.

You find yourself swapping line improvement stories with other beginners.  Talking about the latest televised race with total strangers and listening to the wise words of the on-track instructors.  As time goes by, you find that the on-track time almost interferes with your socializing time.

By the end of the first day you'll be thinking "What a great bunch of people are here at the track".  "They all seem so friendly and eager to help" you tell yourself as you pack up for the night.

What you didn't realize is that everyone at the track has the same hobby.  A hobby that can only come to life when other like minded people join in.  You might say that they have a vested interest in making you a regular at their track events.

The drive home from your first event is always the same.  You're still in that excited track state and you just can't wait to tell your friends what you did this weekend.  As you drive you remember some of the trickier corners in your mind and try to figure out a better line through them.  Next, your thoughts turn to future vehicle modifications you can make to get a little bit faster.

Well my friend, save your pennys because you are now a track addict too.  No worries, your support group will be waiting for you right where you left them, at the track.
See you there.
